Change of Minimum Age Requirements

The minimum age requirement for juniors (previously 9 years of age) has now been changed to 10 years of age. We have made the decision to increase the age limit as most 9 year olds struggled to use a basic low poundage bow. It is also important when juniors take part in the course that they are patient and are willing to listen to instructions from our coaches especially around the use of the bow and safety towards others.

Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian who must remain for the duration of the course.

Length of Course

The course lasts for 4 weeks on a Friday evenings.  Arrive at 6:30pm to set up your equipment and start shooting at 7:00pm.  The session will last approximately 1 1/2 hours.

What should I expect to learn?

  • You will be taught basic techniques on how to safely shoot a recurve bow.
  • You will learn about different bow types and styles (compound, longbow, horsebow).
  • You will learn how to score in a tournament and will take part in a mini tournament at the end of the course.
  • At the end of the course you will receive a certificate of completion as proof that you have completed the Beginners Course. You can then use this certificate to join any archery club.

Location of Course

Outdoor Sessions take place at CACSSA - Cotswold Area Civil Service Sports Association, just off of Tewkesbury Road in Cheltenham
