How much does the course cost?

Payment of £55 per person.

Minimum Age Requirements

The minimum age requirement for juniors which we recommend is 9 years of age. It is important when juniors take part in the course that they are patient and are willing to listen to instructions from our coaches especially around the use of the bow and safety towards others. 

Length of Course

The course lasts for 6 weeks on a Friday evenings.  Arrive at 6:30pm to set up your equipment and start shooting at 7:00pm.  The session will last approximately 1 1/2 hours.

What should I expect to learn?

  • You will be taught basic techniques on how to safely shoot a recurve bow.
  • You will learn about different bow types and styles (compound, longbow, horsebow).
  • You will learn how to score in a tournament and will take part in a mini tournament at the end of the course.
  • At the end of the course you will receive a certificate of completion as proof that you have completed the Beginners Course. You can then use this certificate to join any archery club.

Indoor sessions take place at the School Gym located in Dean Close School, Hatherley Road Cheltenham

If travelling by car please note that the School Gym hall is just a few meters up from the Bacon Theatre which is a short drive from the Junction 11 on the M5 and only 1½ miles from Cheltenham town centre. The Bacon Theatre entrance can be accessed via the Hatherley Road entrance to Dean Close School.  Simply follow the brown tourism signs from either end of the Hatherley Road. There is free on-site parking available at but please be aware that spaces cannot be guaranteed during busy periods so please allow plenty of time for parking.

Previous Courses

Apr-Jun 2017


We had 8 students on our outdoors summer course, with particularly good weather for the final shoot and certificate presentations.  We are delighted to welcome 2 new club members from the course: Chris and Illyana.

Jan-Mar 2017


Unlucky for some, but not for the 13 great students we had on our indoors winter course we ran at the start of 2017.  All graduated with flying colours and 5 students have now joined the club: Helen, Alice, Nigel, Stuart and Alun

Oct-Dec 2016


A large class of 15 students graduated off the autumn course 2016.  Welcome to another 7 club members: Sue, Damien, Leighton, Michael, Diarmuid and mother-daughter combo Katherine and Elizabeth.



We ran an indoor course Jan - Mar 2016 and an outdoor course Apr-June 2016 which saw another 7 members join including Adam, Ash, Anne, Clive, John and father-daughter combo Chris and Kitty.

Another keen group of students saw 7 new club members including 2 couples - Vicky & Mike, Katy & James, Tracey, Mark and Russ.
